Caustic Soda
Catalog NO.: AIMRSE-CHM-ADD-006 Manufacturer PN: CHM-ALK-CST
• Reduce the concentration of calcium and magnesium in the drilling fluid system; control the pH and alkalinity of the water-based drilling fluid system.
Increase drilling fluid pH and alkalinity to neutralize acidic gases.
Caustic soda is commonly used to raise the pH level in drilling fluids. It can also remove magnesium ions from seawater, inhibit calcium ions in water, and reduce water hardness. Additionally, caustic soda can neutralize acidic gases such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. Caustic soda is highly soluble in water and reacts violently, releasing significant heat. Therefore, when adding caustic soda onsite, it must be added slowly and thoroughly stirred to prevent splashing.
