Potassium Formate
Catalog NO.: AIMRSE-CHM-ADD-121 Manufacturer PN: CHM-POT-FMT
• It has a strong ability to inhibit the hydration and dispersion of clay and shale. • Good compatibility with other drilling fluid products. • Saturated solution mass fraction is as high as 76%, and it dissolves quickly. • Low aqueous solution activity, which is beneficial to wellbore stability. • High core permeability, which can effectively protect the producing formation, and it is an environmentally friendly product.
Used for preparing solid-free completion fluids and workover fluids with densities within 1.58 g/cm³; used in reservoir-specific drilling fluid systems; potassium formate drilling and completion fluid systems, widely applied in small-borehole drilling, horizontal wells, deviated wells, and environmentally sensitive drilling areas.
Potassium formate has the chemical formula KCOOH. The liquid potassium formate product is colorless and transparent. It is used in workover and completion operations, with a saturated solution density of 1.58 g/cm³. It can also be incorporated into specialized reservoir drilling fluid systems. In numerous applications, potassium formate brine is considered more environmentally friendly than chloride or bromide salts. Although more expensive than conventional brines, potassium formate brine demonstrates superior temperature resistance in natural polymer systems, with potassium ions effectively inhibiting clay and shale hydration swelling. Potassium formate is available in both powder and liquid forms.
