Case Study

Practical application examples showing how our vacuum solutions improve efficiency and reliability for global customers.

The Challenge

Helium Background Accumulation in Multi-Chamber Semiconductor Tool

A semiconductor manufacturer using a four-chamber PECVD cluster tool faced rising false rejects during vacuum validation. Helium tracer gas accumulated in the shared manifold and foreline, elevating background levels and masking true leak signals. This caused yield loss and extended downtime for helium clearing.

The Solution: Intelligent Sequencer with Background Subtraction

AIMRSE reconfigured the spectrometer's sequencer logic for staged pump-out and dynamic background nulling. A high-conductance bypass with a dedicated roughing pump accelerated helium clearance. Real-time adaptive filtering subtracted the decaying background, enabling true leak detection despite residual helium.

Reducing false rejects through signal processing

Throughput Restored

False reject rate dropped from 12% to under 0.5% within one week. Tool availability rose roughly 8%, and the customer achieved a six-month ROI from recovered production capacity—with no process chamber modifications required.

Standards & Compliance

AIMRSE vacuum instrumentation is developed and manufactured within a quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015, ensuring consistent traceability from component procurement through final acceptance testing. All leak detectors and vacuum gauges shipped to North American facilities comply with UL 61010-1 and CSA C22.2 No. 61010-1 electrical safety standards, while equipment destined for European laboratories meets the essential requirements of the CE Machinery Directive and RoHS 3 (2015/863/EU) directives. Calibration of helium mass spectrometers is performed against internal reference leaks that are directly traceable to NIST primary standards, with calibration certificates maintained on file and available upon request. For clients operating under FDA or ISO 14644 cleanroom classifications, material certifications and surface finish documentation are provided as part of the standard quality dossier.

Customer Reviews

Real users' feedback from industrial and research clients on our reliable vacuum equipment and professional support.

"We were initially concerned about helium consumption costs for our new energy battery pack line. AIMRSE worked with us to optimize the sniffer probe geometry and tune the test cycle timing, which reduced our helium usage by nearly 30% without sacrificing the 10⁻⁹ Pa·m³/s detection threshold. Their team clearly understands the physics of molecular flow, not just the equipment specs. This kind of application support is rare."

Technical FAQ

What is the practical detection limit of your helium mass spectrometer in a production environment?
Under typical production conditions with standard foreline pumping and reasonable helium background management, our instruments consistently achieve a practical detection floor of 2×10⁻¹² Pa·m³/s in vacuum mode. In sniffer mode, this figure is typically 1×10⁻⁹ Pa·m³/s. The ultimate laboratory sensitivity specified on the datasheet (5×10⁻¹³ Pa·m³/s) is achievable in controlled settings with extended pump-down times and minimal ambient helium. We always recommend an on-site feasibility study to characterize the actual background contribution from your specific test environment, as this is the limiting factor far more often than the instrument's intrinsic sensitivity.
How frequently does the internal calibrated leak require recertification?
Our internal calibrated leaks are supplied with a 12-month NIST-traceable certificate as standard. The helium permeation rate through the quartz membrane is exceptionally stable, typically drifting less than 2% per year under normal laboratory conditions. We recommend annual recertification for facilities operating under ISO 9001 or similar quality systems, and biannual recertification for semiconductor fabs subject to strict audit requirements. Recertification can be performed without removing the instrument from service—we ship a loaner calibrated leak while yours is being processed, minimizing downtime. Extended calibration intervals of up to 24 months may be acceptable for R&D laboratories with documented stability verification.
Can your vacuum gauges operate reliably in the presence of reactive process gases?
Gauge compatibility with reactive chemistries is determined primarily by sensor type. Our capacitance manometers are gas-type independent and suitable for most corrosive environments when equipped with Inconel or Hastelloy diaphragms. Pirani gauges with platinum filaments are acceptable for inert and mildly oxidizing gases but will degrade rapidly in halogen or silane-containing atmospheres. For cold cathode gauges used in sputtering or PECVD applications, we recommend ceramic-insulated inverted magnetron designs with replaceable cathodes. We maintain a comprehensive gas compatibility matrix and can advise on the appropriate sensor selection during the specification phase. For custom applications, we can arrange exposure testing with your specific gas mixture.
Is your equipment compatible with 21 CFR Part 11 and FDA validation requirements?
Yes, for pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotech applications requiring electronic records compliance, we offer a software validation package that supports 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11 requirements. This includes secure user authentication with role-based access control, immutable audit trails logging all calibration events and parameter changes, and electronic signature capability for test report approval. Raw data files are stored in a non-proprietary format (CSV or HDF5) suitable for long-term archiving and independent analysis. We provide an IQ/OQ protocol template and can support on-site validation execution by your quality team or our field service engineers. The standard firmware includes the technical capabilities; the validation package provides the documented evidence and procedural controls required by auditors.
