Performance Validation & Field-Proven Reliability

We retrofitted our pick-and-place machines with AIMRSE LM-IC iron-core linear motors. The increase in acceleration and speed reduced our placement cycle time by over 30%, significantly increasing throughput. The motors have operated for over 25,000 hours with zero maintenance, far exceeding the reliability of our previous belt-driven systems.

Our wafer inspection stages require sub-nanometer velocity ripple to achieve the required imaging resolution. The AIMRSE LM-IL ironless motors with advanced commutation and high-resolution encoders have consistently delivered velocity ripple below 0.01%, enabling us to meet our most demanding customer specifications.

Frequently Asked Linear Motor Questions

What is the difference between iron-core and ironless linear motors?
Iron-core (slotted) motors use ferromagnetic laminations in the coil assembly, providing higher force density and better heat dissipation, but exhibit cogging force. Ironless (slotless) motors have no iron in the coil assembly, offering zero cogging, ultra-smooth motion, and lower moving mass, ideal for high-precision scanning applications.
How do I select the correct linear motor for my application?
Start with your motion profile: move distance, move time, settle time, and payload mass. Calculate the required peak force (for acceleration) and RMS force (for continuous duty). Our application engineers can assist with detailed sizing calculations and motor selection.
What type of feedback device is recommended for linear motors?
Linear motors require direct linear position feedback. Incremental linear encoders (analog or digital) are standard for most applications. Absolute linear encoders (BiSS, EnDat) are recommended for applications requiring immediate position recovery after power loss.
Can you provide complete linear motor stages with bearings and feedback?
Yes. We offer complete linear motor stages including the motor, precision linear guides, linear encoder, cable management, and hard stops. Provide stroke length, payload, and performance requirements for a custom stage quotation.
What is the maximum stroke length available?
Magnet tracks can be assembled in segments to achieve virtually unlimited stroke length. Practical stroke is limited only by the linear encoder scale length and cable management system. We have supplied stages with strokes exceeding 4 meters.
What cooling is required for continuous operation?
Most iron-core motors require liquid cooling for continuous operation at rated force. Ironless motors can often operate with natural convection cooling, but liquid cooling may be required for high-duty cycles. We provide cooling plate and water circuit recommendations.

Accelerate Your Motion System with Direct-Drive Linear Motors

From high-force iron-core motors to ultra-smooth ironless designs, our application engineers will help you select the optimal linear motor for your high-speed, high-precision requirements. Provide force, speed, stroke, and payload details for a detailed quotation, sizing report, and 3D CAD model.

For fastest service, provide motion profile details: move distance, move time, settle time, and payload mass.
