Zero-Backlash Precision for Robotic Motion Control

AIMRSE precision robot gearboxes deliver exceptional torque density, positioning accuracy, and torsional rigidity for the most demanding automation applications. Our portfolio includes high-precision RV gearboxes and harmonic drive strain wave gears engineered for articulated robots, collaborative robots (Cobots), CNC rotary axes, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With backlash as low as 0.5 arc-min and reduction ratios up to 200:1, we enable smooth, repeatable motion in compact form factors.

Every gearbox undergoes rigorous testing for transmission error, lost motion, and torsional stiffness. We offer standard and custom input shaft configurations, integrated motor mounting interfaces, and sealed designs for food-grade or cleanroom environments. Whether you're designing a six-axis industrial robot or a high-speed delta picker, our application engineers will help you select the optimal precision gearbox solution.

Performance Validation & Field-Proven Reliability

We standardized on AIMRSE RV gearboxes for the major axes of our high-speed palletizing robots. Over 20,000 operating hours, the backlash remains within 0.5 arc-min without any adjustment. The gearboxes run cooler and quieter than previous suppliers, which has been a key selling point for our end customers.

Our Cobot joints require extremely smooth torque output to achieve safe force limiting. Switching to AIMRSE harmonic gearboxes reduced our joint torque ripple by over 30% and improved the overall haptic response. The custom input shaft design simplified our motor integration and reduced assembly time.

Frequently Asked Gearbox Questions

What is the difference between RV and harmonic gearboxes?
RV gearboxes use a two-stage cycloidal reduction mechanism offering extremely high torsional rigidity and overload capacity, ideal for heavy industrial robot base and arm axes. Harmonic gearboxes use a flexible spline (strain wave) to achieve zero backlash in a very compact, lightweight package, preferred for Cobot joints and wrist axes.
Can you provide gearboxes with integrated servo motors?
We offer gearbox and motor assembly services, including mounting, alignment, and testing as a complete actuator unit. Provide your motor model or mechanical drawing, and we will supply a fully assembled, tested gearmotor ready for installation.
What is the expected service life of an RV gearbox in a typical robot application?
Under rated load and speed conditions, AIMRSE RV gearboxes are rated for 20,000 hours of continuous operation (L10 bearing life). Actual service life can extend significantly higher in intermittent duty applications common in robotics. We provide life calculations based on your specific duty cycle.
Are food-grade lubricated gearboxes available?
Yes. We offer gearboxes pre-filled with NSF H1 registered food-grade grease for incidental food contact. These are suitable for food processing, packaging, and pharmaceutical automation equipment.
Do you provide gearboxes with hollow shafts for cable routing?
Absolutely. Our RV-C Series and Harmonic Drive SHG Series feature large hollow bores to accommodate cables, hoses, or laser optics through the center of the joint, simplifying robot arm design.
What mounting positions are acceptable for your gearboxes?
AIMRSE precision gearboxes can be mounted in any orientation—horizontal, vertical, or inverted—without affecting performance or lubrication. Ensure the vent plug (if equipped) is properly positioned according to the installation manual.
