Introduction

Industrial Machine Vision Lens

An Industrial Lens is a high-precision optical component designed to project a clear, undistorted image of a target onto a camera's sensor. Unlike consumer-grade lenses, industrial lenses are engineered for maximum optical resolution (MTF), minimal geometric distortion, and long-term stability in harsh factory environments. They are the critical link in the imaging chain, determining the field of view (FOV), depth of field (DOF), and the level of detail a vision system can resolve. From standard FA lenses for general inspection to telecentric lenses for high-accuracy measurement, the right optics ensure reliable automated decision-making.

Working Principle

1. Light Refraction

Light rays from the object are collected by multiple high-index glass elements, which bend and converge the light towards the camera's sensor plane.

2. Aperture Control

An internal iris diaphragm regulates the amount of light entering the lens, directly influencing the image brightness and the depth of field (DOF).

3. Precision Focusing

Mechanically adjusting the distance between lens elements ensures that the target stays sharp regardless of the specified working distance (WD).

4. Image Projection

The final optical path projects a flat, high-contrast image onto the sensor, optimized to match the pixel size and format of the industrial camera.

Key Technical Specifications

  • Ultra-Low Distortion Design
Optimized to eliminate barrel or pincushion distortion, ensuring that straight lines in the physical world remain perfectly straight in the digital image for accurate gauging.
  • High Pixel Density Compatibility
Engineered to support 5MP, 10MP, and even 150MP sensors, maintaining high edge-to-edge contrast (MTF) to match modern small-pixel CMOS technology.
  • Broad Bandwidth Coatings
Advanced multi-layer anti-reflection (AR) coatings maximize light transmission across Visible (VIS), Near-Infrared (NIR), or UV spectrums.
  • Vibration-Resistant Mechanics
Equipped with locking screws for iris and focus rings, ensuring the lens maintains its settings even when mounted on high-vibration robotic arms.
  • Wide Aperture (F-Number)
Low f-number designs allow more light into the sensor, enabling high-speed shutter captures in low-light industrial environments without excessive gain noise.
  • Large Format Support
Available in various mounts (C-mount, CS-mount, F-mount, M42) to cover sensor sizes from 1/3" up to full-frame and line-scan formats.

Core Lens Categories

Fixed Focal Length (FA) Lenses

The standard choice for most factory automation tasks. These lenses provide a fixed field of view at a specific distance, offering high brightness and compact size.

Telecentric Lenses

The "gold standard" for metrology. These lenses eliminate perspective error (parallax), ensuring the object size remains the same in the image regardless of its distance.

Macro & Zoom Lenses

Designed for extreme close-ups of small components or variable field-of-view requirements, providing high magnification and flexibility for R&D labs.

Line Scan Lenses

Specially designed for high-speed continuous imaging, offering large image circles and high resolution for line-scan cameras used in web inspection and large-format scanning.

Typical Applications

Precision Measurement

Dimensional Measurement

Utilizing telecentric lenses for sub-micron gauging of mechanical parts, screws, and engine components where perspective errors are unacceptable.

PCB Inspection

Electronics Inspection

High-resolution FA lenses used in SMT lines to inspect solder paste, component orientation, and micro-cracks on semiconductor wafers.

Logistics Scanning

Logistics & Traceability

Wide-angle, high-depth-of-field lenses used for high-speed barcode reading and package identification on conveyor systems.

Selection Guide

Optical performance is the foundation of vision accuracy. At AIMRSE, we help you calculate the perfect lens parameters to match your specific application requirements:

  • Focal Length Calculation: Balancing the required Field of View (FOV) against the available Working Distance (WD) in your machine's footprint.
  • Sensor Format Matching: Ensuring the lens image circle is large enough to cover the camera sensor without vignetting or edge blurring.
  • Depth of Field (DOF): Determining the required range of focus depth based on the object's height variations or movement tolerance.
  • Resolution (Lp/mm): Selecting a lens with an optical resolution that exceeds the Nyquist frequency of the sensor's pixel size.
  • Spectral Requirements: Selecting optimized glass for NIR, UV, or SWIR applications where standard visible-light lenses may lose clarity.

Optical Standards & Quality

Our lenses are manufactured under strict cleanroom conditions to ensure absolute clarity and performance:

  • MTF Testing: Every lens is validated using Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) charts for edge-to-edge sharpness.
  • Distortion Calibration: Precise data sheets provided for software-based distortion correction in high-accuracy tasks.
  • Mechanical Durability: Rugged metal construction and shock-resistant designs (up to 10G) for robotic integration.
