Overview

Eliminate Environmental Noise for Critical Measurements: Floor vibrations from building HVAC, foot traffic, and nearby equipment can introduce nanometer‑scale probe tip motion that degrades measurement accuracy—especially for low‑current, high‑frequency, and long‑duration experiments. At AIMRSE, we provide Anti‑Vibration Platforms engineered to isolate your probe station from environmental mechanical noise. Our passive and active isolation systems attenuate vibrations across a broad frequency spectrum, from sub‑Hertz building resonances to kilohertz acoustic noise, ensuring the probe‑to‑sample stability required for the most demanding semiconductor, quantum, and photonic measurements.

Isolation Technology & Platform Integration

Anti-vibration platform with active air isolation and granite base Fig 1: AIMRSE anti‑vibration platform providing sub‑Hertz isolation for precision probe station measurements.

AIMRSE anti‑vibration platforms combine a massive granite or steel base with pneumatic or active‑electronic isolators to create a mechanically quiet measurement environment. Passive pneumatic isolators use air springs to decouple the platform from floor vibrations above ~2 Hz, while active systems employ piezoelectric actuators and feedback control to cancel vibrations in real time down to 0.5 Hz. The platform surface is precision‑machined with a grid of threaded holes for secure mounting of probe stations, positioners, and accessories. For vacuum and cryogenic systems, the platform can be integrated with the chamber support structure to isolate the entire assembly. Our anti‑vibration platforms are essential for low‑frequency noise measurements, scanning probe microscopy, cryogenic qubit characterization, and sub‑micron device probing.

Available Anti‑Vibration Configurations

Passive Pneumatic Platforms

Isolation from ~2 Hz Upward
Air‑spring isolators with laminar flow damping. Cost‑effective solution for most semiconductor probing applications. Requires compressed air or nitrogen supply.

Active Vibration Isolation

Real‑Time Cancellation from 0.5 Hz
Piezoelectric actuators and feedback control actively cancel floor vibrations. Essential for cryogenic probe stations, SPM integration, and qubit coherence experiments.

Granite Base Platforms

High‑Mass Passive Damping
Solid granite surface with threaded hole grid for rigid component mounting. Provides thermal stability and vibration damping for precision optical and probe station setups.

Compact Benchtop Isolators

Retrofit for Existing Benchtops
Small‑footprint active or passive isolators that fit under individual probe stations. Ideal for upgrading existing laboratory setups without replacing the entire work surface.

Core Engineering Advantages

Broadband Vibration Attenuation

Passive systems provide >90% isolation above 10 Hz. Active systems extend isolation down to 0.5 Hz, effectively canceling building sway and footfall vibrations that would otherwise cause probe tip drift.

Automatic Leveling & Load Compensation

Active and passive systems automatically adjust to changes in payload mass and center of gravity. This maintains the platform level and ensures consistent isolation performance as equipment is added or reconfigured.

Modular & Expandable Design

Platforms are available in standard sizes from 600 mm × 600 mm to 1500 mm × 3000 mm. Multiple platforms can be joined for large‑scale experiments, and accessories such as shelves and instrument bridges can be added.

Anti‑Vibration Platform FAQ

Do I need passive or active vibration isolation?
For most DC and RF probing, passive pneumatic isolation is sufficient. If you are performing cryogenic measurements, scanning probe microscopy, or low‑frequency noise measurements, active isolation is strongly recommended to cancel sub‑Hertz building vibrations.
What is the load capacity of the platform?
Standard platforms support up to 500 kg distributed load. Custom platforms for heavier cryostats or multiple instrument clusters are available with higher capacity isolators.
Can I retrofit my existing probe station with vibration isolation?
Yes. We offer benchtop isolator modules that fit under the feet of your existing probe station. These provide effective isolation without requiring a complete platform replacement.
Does the platform require compressed air?
Passive pneumatic isolators require a clean, dry compressed air or nitrogen supply at ~80 psi. We can supply a quiet, oil‑free compressor if house air is not available. Active systems operate from standard AC power.
How do I know if floor vibrations are affecting my measurements?
We offer on‑site vibration surveys using calibrated accelerometers to characterize the vibration environment in your laboratory. This data helps us recommend the appropriate isolation solution for your specific application.
